Memorial Day weekend and Free Fishing Day are just around the corner, and if you are itching to get outdoors to enjoy the warm weather, the Division of Wildlife Resources recommends several great Utah fishing destinations that are worth checking out this time of year. For beginners, there are 57 community ponds located around Utah, including Old Fort Ponds in Uintah County. Recommended advanced fishing spots include Strawberry Reservoir, Starvation Reservoir, Pelican Lake, and Long Park Reservoir. The Division of Wildlife Resources also wants all interested to know that Free Fishing Day is on Saturday, June 6th this year which allows anyone to fish at any public waterbody in Utah without a license. DWR Sportfish Coordinator Trina Hedrick shares that “all of the fish in the state, both warmwater and coldwater species, are active and willing to bite this time of year, making early June one of the best times to fish in Utah.”
