TriCounty Health Department is urging locals to take flu prevention seriously. While it’s been a slower flu season this year, TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis says that the area is now seeing an uptick. “This is where we saw it last year,” shares Mathis. “ We’re seeing an uptick across the state and have had some hospitalizations locally from the flu.” As a result, TriCounty Health is once again urging proper flu prevention to Basin residents. The top two things to do are first to get your flu vaccine and second to be sure to wash your hands. Mathis says statistics state that only 1 in 5 individuals wash their hands, about 30 percent of those are using soap, and only 5 percent of people are washing their hands correctly. Get hands wet, lather them with soap and scrub the surface, including the back of hands, for about 20 seconds. Rinse and pat dry. It’s also important to use a clean cloth to dry hands.
