Friends Against Family Violence Domestic Violence Shelter Not Closing

The ‘Friends Against Family Violence’ domestic violence shelter in Vernal is doing well and staying open. Alisha Gowen, Founding member and co-chair of the FAFV Executive Board, just wants to set the record straight.”I understand that there are rumors floating about that shelters may close in our area due to budget issues,”shares Gowan. “While I haven’t had time to research the accuracy for Turning Point, the homeless shelter. I do want to clarify that the Domestic Violence shelter, providing services for Uintah, Duchesne, Daggett and the Ute Tribe is NOT closing its doors. In fact- the program is growing!! I often hear the Domestic Violence shelter still referred to as the ‘women’s shelter’ HOWEVER it would be helpful to call it by the new title Friends Against Family Violence so that we, as a community, can really change the way we refer to the services provided.” The initial confusion in the community was prompted by Uintah County’s announcement that they are exploring alternative options to the Turning Point Shelter.
