Thankfully there were no injuries after a fire at Naples Elementary caused substantial damage to one of the playgrounds behind the school. According to the Uintah School District announcement, the fire was called in around 3:45pm. While no students were at the building, teachers and staff who were in the building for training had to evacuate through the front of the school. Naples City Fire responded and put the fire out. Heavy damage was done to the main play structure. It was estimated that the damage to the playground is about $70,000 dollars and the entire play structure will have to be replaced. “Investigators have deemed the fire accidental,” shares the announcement. “They determined it was the result of a school maintenance project that took place on the playground earlier in the day. The maintenance worker who completed the project stated that he saw no smoke or signs of fire when he finished the job. School surveillance video supported his statement, showing the fire starting hours after the work was done.”
