The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has listed the Uinta Mountains among the top places for high-elevation fishing during the month of August. Located in the northeastern corner of Utah, the Uinta Mountains have 14 drainage basins that are famous for stream fishing opportunities. In fact, the Uinta Mountains is rated as a Blue Ribbon Fishery, meaning it is among the state’s most exceptional, high quality fishing experiences. Because of the water temperature at these elevations, most of the streams and lakes in these areas primarily have a variety of trout species. “There are thousands of miles and hundreds of lakes with brook and cutthroat trout in these high-elevation areas,” shares DWR Sportfish Coordinator Trina Hedrick. “You can also find rainbow and brown trout in the ‘lower’ high country, due to their habitat needs.
