The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is congratulating a new batch of officers to have completed Crisis Intervention Training at the Utah CIT Academy. The Utah CIT Academy is based on a model out of Memphis Tennessee. The Academy is a 40-hour training course taught by mental health professionals and the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office has been proud participants since the Academy was established in 2007. The Sheriff’s Office explains that officers need “to be proactive and increase their skills and abilities addressing the ever changing inmate social and mental stigmas [faced] on a daily basis.” The newest deputies to earn their certificate through the Utah CIT Academy are Deputies Elizabeth Richens, La-Norma Ramirez, Jeff Williams, and Gerald Ross. This brings the total number of Duchesne County officers to earn the certification to 16. The Sheriff’s Office thanked the officers for making the sacrifice of time away from their families to complete the CIT course.
