The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office hosted a full scale mock disaster last week at the Duchesne County Fairgrounds. The scenarios centered around the Duchesne County Fair Demolition Derby and the potential emergency situations that could happen. Volunteers from around the community and emergency personnel re-enacted emergency situations to evaluate emergency responders actions and decision-making processes, ability to cooperate and work together, as well as test their readiness to respond in real life emergencies, shares the Sheriff’s Office. One of the scenarios included a situation in which two derby cars collided resulting in a fire that spread to the grandstands. Another scenario was that lightning struck a power pole resulting in widespread loss of power. Another scenario involved a domestic dispute that turned into a hostage situation at the fairgrounds. These and other scenarios were used to help train and practice what to do in emergency situations that can quickly spin out of control. The Sheriff’s Office thanked the multitude of agencies that participated.
