The Domínguez–Escalante 250th Commemorative cross made a stop in Duchesne City this month in recognition of the historic 1776 expedition. “Mayor Deborah Herron had the opportunity to sign the commemorative cross at Eagle Park, adding Duchesne to the communities and historic locations connected through this special project,” shares the Duchesne City announcement. “The Domínguez–Escalante Expedition traveled through what is now Utah in 1776 while exploring a route through the American Southwest. The expedition is an important part of the early recorded history of our region, and its journey has connections throughout Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico.” The commemorative cross made its stop at Eagle Park in Duchesne where monuments to the expedition already stand before continuing along the 1776 expedition route.
