Dollar Ridge Fire-Aid Fair: Creating Defensible Space to Better Protect your Property from Wildfire

by | Aug 23, 2018 | News | 0 comments

Wildfire is an unfortunate reality every summer and fire officials will have quite the set up at this weekend’s Dollar Ridge Fire-Aid Fair to teach any and all who will listen what to do to best protect property from future wildfires.  The Dollar Ridge Fire is a real example of the importance of developing defensible space, explains Brad Wardle, Chairman of the Fruitland Fire Council. Clearing any and all flammable material for a safety zone of 30 feet can make a huge difference in the event of a wildfire threatening property. When that defensible space is established, firefighters have options that can save structures but without defensible space, there is often nothing that can be done to stop the fire as it tears through. “The Dollar Ridge Fire has really put defensible space in the forefront of people’s thoughts,” says Wardle. “We will be inside the Centennial Event Center this Saturday ready to teach everyone about defensible space and what they should do.” Booths will be set up from multiple agencies and firefighters will be in attendance to greet concert goers and the other visitors at the Duchesne County Fairgrounds. Come support the great cause of the Dollar Ridge Fire-Aid Fair this Friday and Saturday. Visit
