Known as one of the biggest events in the Vernal area every year, the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo is prepping to welcome thousands to the event with a long history. The rodeo can be traced back to 1932 when it was known as the Blue Mountain Rodeo. The event drew 50 riders and provided entertainment to the community. The next year it was called the Uintah Basin Rodeo and hosted 65 events. By the 4th year it had yet another name as the Vernal Rodeo and it’s popularity continued to grow. This year’s rodeo is guaranteed to impress crowds and is expected to draw rodeo fans from throughout the region. The event will feature the best stock available, says Western Park Manager Derk Hatch. Also, an exciting addition to the rodeo this year is each night will end with a show by Bullfighters Only, known nationally as BFO. The show can get intense as the professional bullfighters can gain up to 50 points for style and control while maneuvering around and jumping over the fighting bull. The bull can also gain up to 50 points based on quickness, aggression and willingness to stay engaged with the fighter. Each match can last up to one minute and the competition is intense as these professional bullfighters take major risks to try and end the fight on a high note. “This will be the crowd pleaser this year for sure,” says Hatch. “These guys can do back flips over these bulls and make it look easy. It will be worth seeing!”  The rodeo runs July 6th, 7th and 8th at the Western Park. Visit
