Dinosaur National Monument Making History with Utah Symphony Concert

Sometimes when you get it wrong, the truth turns out to be something far more exciting than the original belief. Yesterday’s report that the Utah Symphony is making Red Fleet State Park its final stop of their ‘Great American Road Trip’ this summer was incorrect, though a star party will be held at Red Fleet in conjunction with the concert event. No, the Utah Symphony and Utah Office of Tourism announced on Tuesday that the final concert on their road trip will take place on September 2nd within the borders of Dinosaur National Monument at the Split Mountain Campground. While parks and monuments have been listed as stops on Utah Symphony tours of the past, this announcement holds historic value because those concerts were only held near the parks. “It is a huge deal that we are having the concert actually inside the borders of Dinosaur National Monument,” shares Uintah County Director of Travel and Tourism Lesha Coltharp. “This is not something that just happens. In fact, this is the first time they have allowed anything like this.” Coltharp credits the cooperation of the park service team at Dinosaur National Monument and especially the involvement of Monument Superintendent Mark Foust. “He has been phenomenal to work with and worked with the people in Washington, D.C.  to get this approved. The Superintendent’s support made all the difference,” emphasized Coltharp. The Utah Office of Tourism and Utah Symphony have worked together on national park tours for several years, with ‘The Mighty 5’ tour considered an amazing success the last few years. Holding those concerts within the borders of any of the Mighty 5 parks never actually happened, however, because of the complicated permitting process, making the upcoming Utah Symphony concert within Dinosaur National Monument a historical event. Tickets to performances on the ‘Great American Road Trip’ tour are free but required. Tickets will be available May 31st by calling
