Collin Kartchner, the much anticipated special guest for a free event tonight at the Vernal Middle School, got his start as a cinematographer creating video content for dental practices. He came into the public’s eye when he set up a parody Instagram account focusing on the hiliarity of ultra-perfect Instagram influencers. In a quest to battle negative social media, Collin crowd-funded to have billboards put up that read “You are Loved” and “You are Beautiful”. The circumstance of that project lead to Collin starting his current passion project #SavetheKids and #SavetheParents. Armed with the alarming data showing how current social media/smart phone usage is a central contributing factor to the current epidemic rise in teen anxiety, depression, bullying, and suicide, he’s on a mission to educate youth and adults alike. His crusade, according to his site, is to “help educate parents on the damage social media and 24/7 access to peer culture will have on their child’s mental health. His goal is to help teens rise above social media comparison, negativity, cyber bullying, and the stress of being perfect. Every day, Collin gets 100’s of messages from teens sharing how social media is hurting their mental health, and how his message changed or even saved their lives.” Come get educated and gain some tools at tonight’s parent event starting at 6pm at the Vernal Middle School. This event is free to the public and all are invited. Secondary students in the Uintah School District will hear from Collin at school assemblies on Wednesday.
