Charges Filed For High Speed Motorcycle Chase Through Naples

Many in Uintah County heard the sirens on August 9th as a high speed chase of a motorcycle traveled through neighborhoods starting in Naples. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer observed a black and orangish/reddish Harley Davidson run a red light at the intersection of 2500 South 1500 East in Naples and initiated a traffic stop. The motorcycle continued accelerating, heading eastbound on Highway 40. “During the pursuit speeds of 108 MPH were recorded, and speeds of over 110MPH were estimated at one point, with a top speed limit zone being 65 MPH. The rider of the motorcycle operated in the wrong lane of travel, began passing a vehicle on double yellow before it turned to dotted lines, did not stop completely at stop signs, and exceeded the posted speed limit in every speed zone he drove through…The operator of the motorcycle ended up crashing after an approximate 8 minute pursuit, and fled on foot. The bike did not possess insurance [and] had a license plate on the bike that belonged to a Yamaha. The operator of the bike was believed to be Orlando Robert Sandoval.” Officers made contact with Sandoval the next day and he had injuries consistent with the motorcycle crash from the day before. Sandoval denied being the rider and said he used to have a bike like that but had sold it, though he was unable to provide the buyer’s name. Based on evidence and a witness account, 36-year-old Orlando Robert Sandoval was arrested. He’s charged with 3rd Degree Felony Failure to Stop at Command of Police and Misdemeanor charges including Obstruction of Justice, Reckless Driving, Failure to Install Ignition Interlock Device, Driving on Suspended License, Failure to Register a Vehicle, Using Plates Registered To Another Vehicle, and more.
