A Vernal area archery club finished their tournament season strong this summer. Coach Jerry Slaugh shared with Evans Family Media that Centaurs Archery Club traveled to Helena, Montana, to compete in the S3DA Western National Outdoor Target Archery Tournament and the S3DA Western National 3D Archery Tournament. Nine Centaurs stepped onto the national stage to represent their team and compete against some of the best young archers in the West. Elliot Petty became a National Champion in both Outdoor Target and 3D Archery. In 3D, Elliot won a tiebreaker by having the greater number of bonus rings, securing him the title of Eagle Open National Shooter of the Year. Haze Gardner also had a tremendous weekend, becoming a National Champion in both Outdoor Target and 3D, and winning the Youth Open Runner Up National Shooter of the Year. Steven Schenck earned 2nd place in Outdoor Target and 3rd place in 3D. Baley Houghton finished 2nd in Outdoor Target and 3rd in 3D. Areia Houghton finished 3rd in both Outdoor Target and 3D. Knox Gardner took 3rd place in both Outdoor Target and 3D. Coach Slaugh shared that an exciting personal goal was met by team member Jack Schenck who joined the “400 Club” by averaging at least a 10 across all 40 targets. In the Bowhunter Team Challenge, Kash Bastian finished 2nd and Rogan Hall finished 3rd. Coach Slaugh said Montana was the perfect way to finish an incredible season. Another local competitor to note is Kayzlee Carter from Roosevelt who trains with Wolf Pack Archery. Kayzlee earned a Silver Medal in 3D and was awarded Shooter of the Year Runner-Up in her category. Congratulations to all the archery competitors on their growth this season.
