Roosevelt Jr. High Robotics Teams Heading to World Championships

Roosevelt Junior High has become a mecca for high competing robotics with a group of 7th grade girls leading the way. 18 students making up 5 teams are traveling to the 2018 VEX Robotics World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky next month and it’s as big of a deal as it sounds. Roosevelt Junior High’s ‘Roughrider Robotics’ had 7 teams that made it to the state finals at Davis High School earlier this month.

Spring Clean Up Days Announced for Those Wanting to Plan Ahead

Spring clean up is on the minds of many with families wanting to plan around the county clean up days. Uintah County announced this week their free landfill days will be held from April 21st through April 28th. “This gives us a full week and two weekends to get our yards cleaned up and be able to take our trash to the landfill with no cost to the residents,” shares the Uintah County announcement.

Uintah Basin Healthcare maintains a high standard for patient care and a recent award provides evidence of that. The Villa has been awarded the Pinnacle Customer Experience Award for 2018. This is for achieving customer satisfaction standards in Nursing Care, Dining Service, Activities, Safety and Security, Laundry Service, Cleanliness and Admissions. “The data was taken from the 12 months in 2017,” shares Villa Administrator Jeff Chamberlain.

Altamont Clubs Compete Well at State Competitions

Three of Altamont High School’s clubs attended their respective state conferences and competitions this month. The FBLA chapter attended State Leadership Conference and had four students place: Wesley Thacker placed 3rd in Word Processing and qualified for the National Competition; Braxton Hyde and Ethan Abegglen placed 10th in Graphic Design, and Bryson Pugh placed 9th in Accounting II.

The Uintah County Attorney’s Office has issued a statement concerning the topic of County Commissioners sitting on Special Service District boards. “The Uintah County Attorney’s Office legal opinion about whether a Uintah County Commissioner can sit on the Administrative Control Board of a Special Service District without jeopardizing PILT money is consistent with other legal opinions previously rendered by other legal counsel,” shares Chief Deputy Uintah County Attorney Jonathan Stearmer.

Institute Ranks Health by County; Uintah Basin Counties Rank Low in Utah

A County Health Rankings and Roadmaps program aimed at promoting a national culture of health shows that health in Uintah Basin counties ranks low in the state of Utah. The program comes from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and uses health department data measuring factors like premature death, high school graduation rates, obesity, smoking, unemployment, and teen births annually by county.

Mountain Goat Viewing Event in Northeastern Utah

There may be less snow this year but the Division of Wildlife Resources says mountain goats will still make their appearance at an upcoming viewing event. “With only a fraction of the snowpack that we experienced just a year ago, the rocky layer on the South Slope of the Uinta Mountains has been exposed through most of the winter,” shares DWR conservation outreach manager Tonya Kieffer.

Every community member can visit vote.utah.gov to find locations or to find out if you are registered with a party or not. Not all parties will hold caucus meetings in the Uintah Basin but information on your closest contact and meeting will be provided.
