KNEU 1250The Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking information on a Uintah County poaching case. On Wednesday, August 22nd, a dead doe was discovered in the area of East McKee Road off Highway 191, shares the DWR.
While there were some injuries, they were rather minor considering the severity of a crash that took place on Highway 40 last Friday. According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Hull, the accident took place on September 7th at 2:26pm at Mile Post 67 just west of the rest area. An 18-year-old female attempted to pass a semi traveling eastbound and drove her vehicle into oncoming traffic.
The Hospitality Committee in Uintah County is recognizing the faces of customer service in local businesses. The newest DinoSOAR customer service award recipient is Dave Everett, a well-known and loved member of the community who can be found most days hard at work at Betty’s Cafe.
Crews made great progress on the Bender Mountain Fire in the northeast corner of the state. Utah Fire Info reports that there was no new fire growth on Saturday and the acreage held at 4,104 acres.
Utah is following the footsteps of other states by pushing forward in an effort to see a Utah specific ‘Roadless Rule’ and local entities are joining the movement. Duchesne County has announced meetings as they consider amendments to the Duchesne County General Plan.

Law enforcement agencies across the Basin are driving home the message of crosswalk safety with the new school year. Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison is adding his voice to those urging pedestrians and drivers to use caution in and around crossing zones. “We remind drivers to stop at marked crosswalks as soon as a pedestrian approaches the crosswalk,” shares Chief Harrison.
The Daggett County Sheriff’s Office has great advice that many in the community are well aware of but a certain demographic is not. The Sheriff’s Office reports that questions from concerned citizens have been coming in about a phone scam.

The Uintah Basin Board of Realtors ‘Back to School’ Carnival has grown each year and is set up for another big year. September is National Preparedness Month and Uintah County Emergency Management is encouraging citizens to check their insurance coverage. The big storm on August 22nd caused some flash flooding in Uintah County that affected a few property owners. “What some people don’t realize is that private property owners have the responsibility to mitigate against flooding,” shares Emergency Manager Tal Ehlers.
Details have been updated on the Bender Mountain Fire. As of Thursday night, the fire measured at 4,104 acres and is 50 percent contained. The fire began on Sunday night on BLM land in Utah in the area where Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado meet. Within 24 hours it had grown to 2,500 acres and was reported to be human caused.
Dinosaur National Monument is participating in a new education program that will bring 5th grade students to experience the great outdoors. According to Monument Chief of Visitor Services Dan Johnson, the grant from the Eccles Foundation supports the ‘Concrete to Canyons’ program in which students learn camping skills having to spend three days in the great outdoors.
