KNEU 1250Freezing temperatures have moved in and the maintenance staff at Dinosaur National Monument will be closing down campground water systems throughout the week. The Green River Campground closes for the season at noon on Thursday, October 11th.
Rocking out comes natural at Dinosaur National Monument and in conjunction with Earth Science Week and National Fossil Day, the Monument is having a month long Rocktoberfest! The celebration kicked off on Saturday and Sunday with a Fossil Discovery Hike each day followed by several scheduled Quarry Talk meetings.
The school week is off to an exciting start at Eagle View Elementary with the opening of their own ‘Don’t Quit’ Fitness Center. At the end of last school year, Eagle View learned they were one of only three schools in Utah to receive a grant from the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils for a $100,000 dollar fitness center. “We were so excited,” shares Eagle View teacher Tina Daniels.
The Uintah Basin Technical College hosted a career path event on October 4th at their Roosevelt campus. The faculty was very welcoming and had a great preview of each of the classes available. Free food was served, personally made by the culinary department.
The U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions offered high praise for the law enforcement officers of the state of Utah last week during a special meeting at the Utah State Capitol. Many agencies in the Uintah Basin sent officers and all agencies appreciated the supporting words from Sessions. The goals he shared include reducing crime, homicides, opioid prescriptions, and overdose deaths, and his initiative measured Utah as having reduced crime by an impressive 8 percent.
TriCounty Health Department is doing their part to improve community health in the Uintah Basin and among their efforts lately is to spread the truth about Big Tobacco, calling it the biggest scam of the last 100 years. “The best thing to do with tobacco is never use it,” shares TriCounty Health.
What was initially reported as a bomb threat prompted an emergency closure and investigation on Sunday at the Ute Plaza in Fort Duchesne. According to Ute Tribal Enterprises, LLC., the emergency closure included Ute Plaza and Fort Duchesne Ute Petroleum.
Why would someone purposely send their unoccupied vehicle into a river? While the answer to that question is unclear that is exactly what happened last week in the Green River. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a car in the Green River on Friday, October 5th, approximately four miles south of Highway 40 on Redwash Road. “The car appeared to have rolled off an embankment and into the river,” shares the Sheriff’s Office.
The 2018 Uintah Basin Energy Summit held the end of August was, as usual, a who’s who of the energy sector for this region and beyond. “The [event] was once again a huge success with over 500 people in attendance,” shares event organizer and Uintah County Economic Development Director Sylvia Wilkins.
Known as the first local event to get a jump start on holiday shopping, the Roosevelt Holly Fair is preparing for another big year and will be held in 5 locations with vendor spots for most locations already full.
Three Constitutional Amendments will be included on the November election ballot. Constitutional Amendment A asks if the Utah Constitution should be amended to modify the period of time a person in the military needs to serve out of state on active duty in order to qualify for a property tax exemption for the military person’s residence.
TriCounty Health Department recommends citizens receive the flu shot annually and they are backed up by a local family practice doctor. Dr. Karl Breitenbach is the TriCounty Health Medical Advisor and he recommends getting a flu shot every year to develop a higher level of immunity to the virus and to have realistic expectations in that the shot is not always effective though people become more and more immune after each shot is received.
