KNEU 1250An accident resulted in injury on Highway 40 on Tuesday morning in Uintah County. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 11:30am on SR-40 Mile Marker 153. A motorcycle was traveling in front of a passenger car, both traveling eastbound.
After the hours of performance, the songs, and the votes, there is $1800 dollars on the line for this week’s big singing competition finale. Uintah Basin’s own idol contest, Alive After Five, will have its final battle this Thursday outside the Uintah County Library.
A program that has helped many families in the Uintah Basin build sweat equity in their own homes has room for one more family in the Vernal group. The Mutual Self Help Housing program is administered by the Uintah Basin Association of Governments and applications are now being accepted.
The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is the latest to solicit the public for help, this time in a case of stolen animals. “Our office is investigating two separate incidents of livestock theft that happened in July in the Talmage and Altamont areas,” shares the Sheriff’s Office.
The 6th annual ‘Swinging for Dylan’ softball tournament is this weekend and all are encouraged to come support an adorable local boy battling cancer. The ‘Swinging for Dylan’ tournament was originally started by Brittney Murry and Sky Christensen who wanted to help their dear friend Cassie Maldonado whose son had been diagnosed with cancer.
Despite how rural the Uintah Basin is, there are high caliber experiences to be had, even in the arts. The Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus brings the musical talent of the Basin together with national and international acclaimed directors. UBOC includes a 60 member orchestra and a 130 member chorus, performing a Christmas and spring concert.
There is going to be a public hearing for the town of Manila and all residents are invited to attend. The town is looking for public comments and input as they discuss an ordinance involving an impact fee facilities plan and an impact fee analysis. Also being discussed is how to implement the impact fee ordinance including considerations for the calculation, collection, appeal and accounting of such fees for water and sewer infrastructure.
Our community has so much to offer as far as unique activities and to help residents and visitors engage, the Uintah County Passport to Summer program was created. This summer had 97 adventures that earned participants a stamp of accomplishment. For 2019, there were also nine custom dinosaur coins that could be earned.
There is a great diversity of plants and wildlife in Dinosaur National Monument. Some has been there for hundreds of years and other introduced through men. An invasive species that Dinosaur National Monument is asking help from the public to control is the Russian Olive plant. It has a yellow fruit and silvery leaves. Unfortunately it is quite hardy and can survive in very difficult conditions.
The summer brought a plethora of car shows throughout the Basin and beyond. Doe Gardner, a resident of Daggett County, not only showed up to some of those events, she won. She has a red 1945 Ford with blue painted flames in the front. She lovingly refers to her special ride as TAZ (as in tazmanian devil). Gardner and TAZ have proudly represented the Daggett County with multiple wins including a second place win out of 369 in the AutoRama show on March 20th. The big win was at the Garden City show where Doe took Best in Show.
The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help on a recent case. Sometime around Thursday, July 18th an individual or individuals shot and killed a heifer cow on Diamond Mountain in the area of Mail Draw. A $2,000 dollar reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The Sheriff’s Office invites anyone who has information, or was in the area, that might have happened to see a vehicle or heard the gunshot to contact them at 435-789-2511.
Since 2000, at least 42% of adult homicides in Utah were domestic violence related. That staggering statistic is a chilling summation of multiple problems that come with reporting, dealing with, and detering domestic violence. To help prepare and train the much needed advocates, the Utah Domestic Violence Coalition will be holding their Core Advocacy Training (CAT).
