KNEU 1250The FBI announced Thursday that they are offering a reward of up to $12,500 dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of an unidentified male who assaulted a police officer during the Salt Lake City protests on May 30th.
A retired local K9 is in need of some help. Arctos is an 8-year-old German Shepard. She retired from the Naples Police Department on March 4th, 2019, after working 3 years as a dual purpose K9. Arctos has enjoyed family life since her retirement but misfortune recently struck when she was diagnosed with Autoimmune Mediated Polyarthritis that has attacked her front wrists and unfortunately there is no cure.
The ongoing litigation between the Uintah School District Board of Education and board member Dave Chivers has been resolved. Uintah School District issued a press release on Thursday with the details.
The Richard Mountain Fire, originally named the Richard Fire, has caused emergency closures along the Green River. The fire started in Wyoming around 2pm on Monday and quickly spread onto BLM lands in Utah. It is burning in sage brush, grass, and juniper. A BLM Type 3 Incident Management Team took command of the fire on Tuesday evening.
August 5th may be just another day for some but for many in the Uintah Basin this date is remembered each year as the day a local hero was killed in action. On August 5th, 2011, Sgt. Daniel Gurr was fatally shot while on patrol in Afghanistan as a member of the United States Marine Corp.
The Ute Indian Tribe is working to increase Tribal Self Response for the 2020 Census. According to Coralys M. Ruiz Jimenez, Denver Region Tribal Media Specialist, “The overall Self Response rate for the Tribe, as of August 3rd, is 29.2%, with their highest tract showing a 32.8% Self Response Rate.
A Vernal man was on a short list of Utahns that had their hunting or fishing licenses suspended this summer during a state license suspension hearing. The Vernal man was previously convicted in Uintah County Justice Court of wanton destruction of protected wildlife, allowing protected wildlife to waste or spoil and trespassing during a wildlife-related activity.
The talents of the Uintah Basin have been on full display for the last few weeks as Alive After Five has been entertaining crowds every Thursday. Now the contest has reached the final stage with the final four contestants: Des Rimer, Dan Charlee Fabrizio Sanders, Savanna Young, and Kaylee Zelaya, competing for the $1000 dollar 1st place prize.
Property valuation and tax change notices have arrived in mail boxes around Uintah County and some were surprised to see an increase in property taxes and property values from the year before. Uintah County Clerk-Auditor Mike Wilkins explains that overall tax rates actually went down from what was needed to bring in the same revenue as last year.
