KNEU 1250Amazing fishing in northeastern Utah and around the state is watched over by a group that most do not even know exists. The Division of Wildlife Resources explains that the quality of the designated Blue Ribbon Fisheries around the state is monitored and helped along by the Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory Council.

The COVID-19 vaccine has been opened up to more Utahns. During the state’s COVID-19 Thursday press conference it was announced that vaccinations are now being opened to anyone 50 and over in Utah. Governor Spencer Cox said appointments could be made starting March 8th but TriCounty Health has already opened the 50 and older for scheduling on their website.
Girls in high school wrestling in the state of Utah is old news. In fact, according to UHSAA records, the sport has been coed for most of its history in the state. Uintah High School was put on the map and history was made when Ute wrestler Candace Workman took second in state in 2008 as the first female wrestler to place at the state tournament.
The excitement could be felt Thursday evening in the Vernal City Community Room as the youth and leaders of the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra reunited after a long break. The group started their season last August hopeful they could proceed normally but were quickly required to stop meeting due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the area.
Uintah County has returned to the high COVID-19 Transmission Index Level while Duchesne County has stayed at the Moderate Level and Daggett County remains at the Low Transmission Level. According to Thursday’s press release, Uintah County’s 7-day average percent positivity was 8 percent and there were 131 cases in the past 14 days.
The 2020 run of ‘Shrek the Musical’ put on by Uintah High’s theater program was not only a huge hit but also one of the last local events to happen before the COVID-19 pandemic literally shut down the world.
Wildlife officers are encouraging everyone in Utah to download a new app to their cell phones to continue the fight against poaching. The app is called UTDWR and allows the person to report observed wildlife violations. "It isn't required, but we do encourage people to share their name and a way to contact them," shares DWR Captain Wyatt Bubak.
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals announced Tuesday that Duchesne County Nurse Jana Clyde will face the wrongful death suit filed by The Estate of Madison Jody Jensen. 21-year-old Madison Jensen was booked into Duchesne County Jail on November 27th, 2016 for internal possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Donations are graciously being accepted after it was found that the Roosevelt Christian Assembly church building suffered major damage after recent flooding. “As volunteers and church members started tearing away at the damage, it was revealed that the damage had a ripple effect throughout the majority of the structure itself,” shares church member John Hatch.
A Diabetes Prevention Program focused on making lifestyle changes is starting this month and sign ups are going on now. Program coordinator Daniel Jackson is ready to teach about good habits that can create positive change. The class has four main areas of focus: Food, Exercise, Mindset, and Sleep.
Uintah County Library is gearing up to hosting activities for the community. Uintah Basin Teen Reporter Corps will be starting up a new session on March 11th. This is an eight week program where students will produce a three to five minute audio news piece.
