While DWR officers catch plenty of wildlife violations on their own they are also asking for those in the great outdoors to keep their eyes open and if illegal hunting activities are observed, to report them.

Annual Jarvie Fest A Tradition for Many

Hundreds made the trek to Browns Park over the weekend to participate in an event that has become an annual favorite for many. The Jarvie Fest, held at the John Jarvie Historic Ranch on Saturday, was a good ol’ fashioned time that included wagon rides, leather working, horseback rides, flint-knapping, rope-and-candle making, and an old time photography booth.

USU-Uintah Basin to Benefit from Eccles Foundation Grant

As a regional campus in a rural area, USU-Uintah Basin will be benefitting from a three-year grant from the George S. and Dolores Eccles Foundation. The $216,000 dollar grant is aimed at supporting first-generation students pursuing degrees in the sciences and Native American students are strongly encouraged to apply.

Terra Academy Sends Support to School in Houston Texas

One of the oldest charter schools in Houston Texas is receiving some love and support from local students who wanted to help after Hurricane Harvey. The Terra Academy in Vernal invited their students to each try to donate $1 to help out the Beatrix Maise Charter School in Houston that was affected after the hurricane.

Hearing Continues on Green River Double Vehicular Homicide Trial

A sentencing hearing continued late this week in a case of double vehicular homicide that resulted in the death of a one-year-old and her 62-year-old grandmother on March 10th in Green River, Wyoming. Baby Stella Doak and her grandma Debra DeVries were at home when 68-year-old George Maestas drove his vehicle into the residence resulting in their death and the serious injury of another adult in the home.

Community Presence and Feedback Needed at Proposition 5 Meeting

A meeting aimed at public discussion and education on Proposition 5 is coming up. Proposition 5 asks voters to decide if Uintah County shall be authorized to impose a quarter of one percent sales tax, which is the equivalent of 1 cent for every $4 dollars spent, for the purpose of transportation services such as roads, traffic, pedestrian safety, public transit and non-motorized transportation.

Vernal Regional Airport Runway Paving Complete

Construction has been ongoing on the Vernal Regional Airport runway project . The paving portion of the project is now complete which is considered a major milestone in the project.
