A suspicious looking object on the side of I-80 caused serious concern
on Tuesday
in Sweetwater County. According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, bomb technicians were called in when an object, suspected to be a pressure cooker bomb, was spotted on the ground at a truck parking area 35 miles east of Rock Springs. The bomb squad was called in and special bomb disposal robots were used to open the pressure cooker remotely, spilling the chicken stew inside. I-80 was briefly closed down and all involved were grateful it was a false alarm. The caution exercised was not without warrant. Pressure cooker bombs have been used by terrorists for at least 16 years including in 2006 when 200 people were killed in India. Pressure cooker bombs were also used during the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and earlier this month in New York City.
