The USU Bingham Research Center distributed their quarterly report last week. Among the news shared was the announcement of grant funding recently received. A grant of $432,000 was received from the U.S. Department of Energy for work on a University of Utah-led project to investigate potential carbon sequestration and reuse projects in the Uinta Basin. “Our main role will be to perform 3D photochemical modeling with the CMAQ model,” shares the announcement, “investigating how carbon management projects might impact Uinta Basin air quality.” A grant of $47,000 was received from Trinity Consultants to participate in a project for the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality to investigate and improve methods for estimating organic compound emissions from produced water. A grant of $15,000 was received from USU’s Institute for Land, Water, and Air for undergraduate student Kaia Kravet to do a photochemical box modeling study of wintertime ozone.
