TriCounty Health Officer Kirk Benge visited the KLCY studio this week to offer a COVID-19 update for this week’s Give’m Health sharing the following: Unfortunately, Duchesne County once again has the highest rate of COVID-19 infection in the state per capita and last week was the highest week yet for new cases at 423 in the TriCounty Health district.

Hunters Asked to Visit DWR Check Stations Testing for Chronic Wasting Disease

The Division of Wildlife Resources is asking for the public’s cooperation with hunters playing an important role in the surveillance of Chronic Wasting Disease. Hunters that are successful are encouraged to stop at a check station where staff will take lymph nodes from the deer and ask a few questions including where the deer was harvested.

Stewart Lake Fire Update and Reminder to Public

Fire officials confirmed the cause of the wildfire in Jensen and have offered a fervent reminder to the public. According to the Jensen Fire Department, the Stewart Lake Fire was knocked down enough by early morning on Tuesday, September 28th, that most of the crews were sent home.

General Manager of the Uintah Water Conservancy Speaks at Vernal Chamber

Recently at a meeting of the Vernal Chamber of Commerce, the General Manager of the Uintah Water Conservancy District, William Merkley, spoke about the conservancy district and its efforts. He explained that the Uintah Water Conservancy District serves as the sponsoring repayment and operating entity for the Vernal and Jensen Units of the Central Utah Project, which comprise Steinaker and Red Fleet Reservoirs.

Uintah County Listed Among Counties Eligible For Colorado Disaster Loans

The state of Colorado is offering small businesses loans to those that were affected by I-70 closing due to flooding, mudslides and rockslides. According to Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a disaster declaration for Mesa County as well as Eagle, Garfield, Pitkin, Rio Blanco and Routt counties in Colorado and even Grand and Uintah Counties in Utah was approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

DWR Invites All to Help Fight Poaching

All are invited to help in the fight against poaching in Utah. Throughout the state there are already several hunts that have started and the general-season deer hunt starts October 23rd. DWR officers have already contacted 13,350 individuals and inspected the hunting licenses of 5,116 people from August 1st to September 23rd.
