There’s some great turkey hunting in northeastern Utah and the Division of Wildlife Resources has the scoop as hunts are about to open. The youth turkey hunt runs from April 29th to May 1st and the spring general-season turkey hunt runs from May 2nd to the 31st.

State Republican Convention Held Over Weekend
The Utah Republican Convention was held Saturday afternoon in Sandy determining who will face off in the June primary election and who will go straight to represent the Republican Party on the November ballot. Senator Mike Lee won an overwhelming 70 percent of the vote but will still face Becky Edwards and Ally Isom in the June primary election because all three gathered signatures.
Local Firefighters Headed To New Mexico’s Cerro Pelado Fire
Local firefighters are headed out of state as wildfire season is getting an early start in New Mexico. The Uintah Fire District and the Lapoint/Tridell Department accepted the fire assignment to the Cerro Pelado Fire located 34 miles west/northwest of Sante Fe.
UDOT Resumes Work On Gusher Highway 40 Project
Spring means construction season and the Utah Department of Transportation is wasting no time in getting started, including work on Highway 40 in the Gusher area. The resurfacing project resumed this month near milepost 125 at approximately 11285 East Randlett and SR 88.
Little Hole Trail Gets a Makeover
The Office of Outdoor Recreation, part of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, recently completed a project near Flaming Gorge. The Little Hole Trail had a unique problem as river release flows submerged the wood boardwalk causing it to become dilapidated and unsafe.

Golf Tournament In Wyoming Also Benefits Basin Residents
A second annual fundraising golf tournament will be held this summer in the founder’s hometown of Riverton Wyoming but will still benefit some Uintah Basin locals. The non-profit organization, Dreams in Motion, honor transplant recipients. The Dreams in Motion organization is the creation of transplant survivor Bruce Tippets and co-founder Joel Brown.
