A new season is getting underway for the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra and talented young string musicians are invited to audition. UBYCO was founded in 2016 as an opportunity for local youth to take their musicianship to the next level. Participants have mostly ranged from ages 12 to 20 in the years since but there have been a few extra talented kids ages 9 to 11 as well. The organization’s director Mariska Romney Martin is excited for another season of enriching the Uintah Basin with classical music. “If you want the opportunity to perform higher level challenging music with other young people then the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra is for you!” shares Martin. “I have loved working with these young people because they are such dedicated and hard-working musicians. They all want to be there and have sacrificed a lot to be part of this group. It’s rewarding to see their progress each week and how the music starts to come together. It’s been fun for me to be able to give them really advanced music. Besides challenging them and helping them grow as musicians, my goal is to give these kids a meaningful performing experience making beautiful music together.” For audition information, email ubycomusic@gmail.com.
