Ashley National Forest Snow Totals And Prescribed Burns

Snow on Ashley National Forest is melting with totals over the last week decreasing by about a foot on average. As of Monday, May 22nd, snow totals were   36 inches at Brown Duck, 13 inches at Buck Pasture, 23 inches at Chepeta, 36 inches at Five Points Lake, 7 inches at Hayden Fork, 48 inches at Lake Fork Basin, 20 inches at Mosby Mountain, 23 inches at Spirit Lake, and 44 inches at Trial Lake. 

Flaming Gorge Ranger District is scheduled to start prescribed burns that will run through June. The first prescribed fires were planned for Dowd Mountain and ran over the weekend. Upcoming prescribed burning will take place in the D1 Ponderosa Pine Maintenance and Fuels Reduction Project as well as other potential units. Smoke may be visible and prescribed burning is expected to cause minimal impacts to areas or activities outside of the burn units themselves.
