If you’ve been feeling like it can’t be January without any snow on the ground the folks at Ashley National Forest agree. Due to a lack of snow, several roads in the Vernal Ranger District that are normally closed will have gates opened. Taylor Mountain is open to Windy Park. The Red Cloud Loop gate at 191 will stay open to East Park and around Iron Springs and Big Brush Creek. In contrast, the Dry Fork gate will remain closed. Also, ice fishing is possible at East Park Reservoir and Oaks Park but all interested are urged to use extreme caution as ice may be thin. It’s important to also note that while adventuring in the Ashley National Forest, high clearance four wheel drive vehicles are recommended.
