Ashley National Forest Brown Duck Trail Reopens

Exciting news! An Ashley National Forest trail has reopened after several years of closure. The Brown Duck Trail in the Duchesne Ranger District was closed in 2023 due to severe washouts from heavy rains and debris flows. That area had been left vulnerable due to the East Fork Fire of 2020. The trail had been reopened but similar issues from heavy rains in 2024 resulted again in closure. Ashley National Forest announced on Wednesday that crews have been working this summer to clear approximately 10 miles of trail into and around Brown Duck Basin. “This trail to the High Unitas Wilderness has been closed since 2023 following a landslide,” shared the announcement. “America’s national forests are full of world-class recreation opportunities. And we're making sure everyone can experience their big backyard.”
