Altamont Cowboy Dean Thompson Begins Cancer Battle

Dean Thompson, Altamont’s own world champion cowboy, is now facing an even bigger battle than those faced in the rodeo arena. As the 2024 PRCA Bareback Riding World Champ, Dean is one of the best bareback riders in the world and on March 29th he experienced his very first “hang-up” when bucked off a horse during the Cave Creek Rodeo Days in Arizona. He made a stop at a hospital in Park City on his way home to check out his injured wrist and chest and the scan revealed a much bigger issue…a mass in his neck. A biopsy revealed a diagnosis of the highly aggressive Burkitt Lymphoma cancer. He has started on an intense chemotherapy treatment plan that started on Easter Sunday. Reports are that Dean has remained optimistic and is grateful for his “hang-up” mishap that revealed the cancer when it did. Evans Family Media adds our prayers and support for Dean and the entire Thompson family.
