Give’m Health: COVID-19 Spike Overwhelming Healthcare System

Local health officials visited the KLCY studio during this week’s Give’m Health feature. Uintah Basin Healthcare Chief Nursing Officer Bobby Richardson shared that there’s a huge upswing of COVID-19 and it is overwhelming the system. “What I want people to understand is people haven’t stopped having heart attacks, haven’t stopped having strokes, and haven’t stopped having other medical conditions.” said Richardson, who then explained that the high number of COVID patients means the system is backlogged, healthcare workers are overwhelmed, and some patients have even had to be transported to facilities outside the Uintah Basin. The COVID-19 vaccine was also discussed and it was emphasized that while there are breakthrough cases, the overwhelming number of those seriously ill, hospitalized, and killed are those choosing not to be vaccinated.
