Fisheries Biologist Natalie Boren has provided an update on several lakes in Northeastern Utah. Pelican Lake is currently 1 foot away from the conservation pool. There are still reports of good fishing, particularly for bass. Red Fleet’s water levels continue to drop and it is projected it will end the water year around 5000 to 6000 acre feet, down from a total volume of 26000 acre feet. Cottonwood also has a water levels on the steady decline and it is likely to hit the conservation pool in August. Starvation has had reports of good walleye fishing with some people catching up to 100 in a day. “This next month will be a real challenge for our lower elevation lakes and reservoirs,” shares Boren. “We will see the lowest water levels in years, we will see warm temperatures which will stress our trout species, and could potentially see some stress in our warmer water fish species as well. Please think about what your fishing with, practice good catch and release techniques. Fish mornings and evenings when air and water temps are a bit cooler. Please let me know if you see any signs of a fish kill or stressed fish.” Read Boren’s full report on the Fisheries Biologist Natalie Boren Facebook page.
