The drought has prompted plenty of local change and one such change has been a real disappointment for local baseball families. Vernal Youth Baseball announced on Thursday the decision to cancel the 2026 Fall Ball season. “This was not an easy decision, but it is the best one for the long-term health of our baseball fields,” shares the announcement. “Due to ongoing water shortages, we are unable to provide the irrigation the fields need to remain healthy. Playing a fall season under these conditions could cause significant damage that would impact future play.” Vernal Youth Baseball noted that this will give the Uintah Special Service District 1 Maintenance Department the opportunity to focus on repairing, restoring, and reconditioning the fields to ensure they are in a better condition and ready for a successful Spring 2027 season.
