The Grizzly Ridge Fire is burning in the Vernal Ranger District located northeast of Grizzly Ridge Yurt. The Ashley National Forest announcement shared on Monday evening that the fire was identified on July 13 at approximately 12:30pm. At that time it was estimated at 1.5 acres. Crews and air resources are currently working directly to extinguish the fire. Dispersed campers in the vicinity of Grizzly Ridge, Bassett Springs, and the neighboring radio tower were told to be prepared to relocate though no official evacuations or closures were ordered at the time of the announcement. Uintah County Sheriff Steve Labrum reported on Monday night that campers have been encouraged to get out of the area because of the forecasted winds but that, thankfully, fire crews made good progress on Monday. They hope for calm winds and more progress on putting the fire out on Tuesday. They were able to make contact with most of the people that were camping or recreating in the area.
