Hummingbirds are currently migrating through Utah and a group of wildlife and forest officials are providing an event in northeastern Utah for a close up look at these fascinating birds. The Division of Wildlife Resources has partnered with Ashley and Dixie Forest biologists to host a hummingbird banding demonstration in Dutch John on July 18th from 7 to 11am. “It’s a rare and unique opportunity to see Utah’s smallest pollinating birds in hand, while watching biologists gather baseline data to determine strategies for conserving these birds, their habitat and future research needs,” shares DWR Northeastern Region Outreach Manager Tonya Kieffer-Selby. “The population status of many hummingbird species is unknown. These banding efforts help educate our local community and also help us collect information that may be crucial for making future conservation and management decisions.” Learn more at wildlife.utah.gov and sign up for this free event in advance on Eventbrite.
