A 20-year-old man is behind bars and facing charges after allegedly breaking into a Vernal residence and assaulting a resident that was home. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, police were called to a residence in the area of 500 West 400 South for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival an adult male was located in the backyard of the victim’s address and was identified as Gabriel Spendlove. “The victim stated that he had woken up to Gabriel standing over him while asleep on the couch at which point he questioned Gabriel who he was…Gabriel then started to ‘beat’ him up by punching him on his side and around his face. The victim also stated that Gabriel had used one of his forearms in an attempt to strangle him by wrapping it around his neck in a rear choke hold fashion.” The victim fought back and eventually Gabriel fled out the back of the residence. The victim sustained a 2cm laceration underneath the left eye, a large hematoma which was swollen on the right wrist, a chipped tooth, a distinct bite mark on the left forearm, and could be seen with multiple other red marks around their neck, face, forearms, and hands. 20-year-old Gabriel Beau Spendlove was arrested and is charged with 1st Degree Felony Aggravated Burglary, 3rd Degree Felony Aggravated Assault, and Misdemeanor charges including Public Intoxication.
