A local 4th grade class had a special visitor last week after an impactful class learning experience. Mr. Wall’s class at Ashley Elementary recently learned about peaceful protest and finding ways to use your voice respectfully during a unit on the American Revolution. They decided to apply their new knowledge by writing thoughtful letters in peaceful protest after they were not allowed to win a PTA school spirit competition two weeks in a row. Vernal City shared that Mayor Corey Foley visited the class “to recognize their creativity, school spirit, and civic engagement. Students asked thoughtful questions, showed genuine curiosity about local government, and had some impressive conversations with the Mayor about leadership and concerns within Vernal City.
Ashley Elementary’s PTA President, Treasurer, and Secretary also joined the visit after reading the students’ letters and they’re now working to find a compromise with Mr. Wall’s class.” Mayor Foley awarded each student a Vernal City Mayor’s Civic Voices Award for their exceptional civic engagement.
