A support group making a difference in the lives of local families is working to reach more Uintah Basin families in 2017. The “Let’s Talk” Cancer Support Group held their first meeting in August and have continued meeting monthly in Roosevelt. “So far our attendance has been good,” shares one of the group facilitators Cecilia Sullivan. “Most people are from the Roosevelt area but we do have a few coming from Vernal and we’ve been asked if we can meet in Vernal as well to hopefully reach more people.” The group includes diagnosed individuals, caregivers and families affected by all types of cancer and the group provides a place to talk openly about the cancer and its far-reaching effects on lives. Each meeting also includes an educational aspect. Relaxation techniques and stress relief was a topic of one meeting this fall that seemed to help a lot of the group members, shares Cecilia. The last meeting of 2016 is being held at The Villa in Roosevelt at 6:00pm on December 8th. All are invited to attend and bring finger foods to share. 2017 will kick off with the January meeting in Vernal; location to be announced. The monthly meetings will then rotate between Vernal and Roosevelt as the group hopes to expand the opportunity to all Basin folks affected by cancer and in need of support.
