Bears Ears and other potential uses of the Antiquities Act by President Obama continue to be a concern for Representative Rob Bishop with several weeks left in the President’s time in office. Bishop reports this week that he has participated in discussions this month with the Trump transition team to discuss new policy options under a Trump administration including what would be done if Bear Ears receives a National Monument designation before then. “Any monument designation that lacks local support, is excessive, or violates the terms of the Antiquities Act will be scrutinized and is easier to abolish,” shares Bishop. “Discussions with the transition team examined options for the incoming administration.” Bishop says that the talks were positive and encouraging.
