It’s time to visit the local farmers markets! TriCounty Health representative Daniel Jackson visited the Evans Family Media studios with great information about the local markets that have been around for over 15 years. The Roosevelt Farmers Market happens on Thursdays from 3:30 to 7:30pm at Central Park. The Ashley Valley Farmers Market in Vernal is on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm in the park area in front of the Uintah County Library. Volunteers are needed at each market each week so those interested are invited to get involved. Jackson also notes that if you grow food, consider being a vendor at the Farmers Market but regardless, it is the best place to shop for local produce. “Local growers are massively benefitted by we the people using our dollars here to help sustain their important work of growing fresh local food,” says Jackson. “Most growers price the same or below grocery stores for their items so visiting the farmers market can save you money while improving your health.” Both local markets accept SNAP benefits and SunBucks and participate in giving up to $20 in additional money towards certain purchases at the market. Both also participate in the Seniors Farmer Market Nutrition Program. Visit AVFarmersMarket.com or Roosevelt Farmers Market on Facebook to learn more!
