Graduates of the Uintah County Sheriff’s Citizen Academy were celebrated last week after completing their 12 week course. “We were excited to have them graduated and we will start another class in May,” shares Sheriff Vance Norton. The 12 week course was put together for average citizens to get a hands on law enforcement education to provide a better perspective on law enforcement as a profession. The group of graduates have had an amazing experience, says Sheriff Norton, including some intense memories made. A few volunteers got to feel what it is like to be Tasered just like real officers in training. The Sheriff’s Office is starting up another round of the Citizens Academy starting in May to accommodate interest from those who are more available in the summer for a course like this. Those interested in signing up are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff Vance Norton has said the Citizens Academy will be used to form a citizens review board, which has been among Sheriff Norton’s longtime goals.
