The Mile Marker 166 Fire continues to burn though crews are working hard towards containment. According to fire information officer Kelsey Birchell, the goal for containment is today, June 1st. The fire is listed as human caused on the state fire information website though the specific cause is still unknown. The closest structures to the fire are located in Jensen but none are considered in danger. The fire has, however, affected travel on Highway 40. According to UDOT, the fire has affected the roadway in both directions on Highway 40 at Mile Post 166 about 6 miles east of Jensen. Highway 40 was closed for a period of time but one lane reopened for traffic on Tuesday evening. Multiple agencies and engines are assisting on the fire. Birchell confirms that the Mile Marker 166 fire has burned 920 acres. The wet spring has created a build up of dry fuels in some areas creating cause for concern this summer.
