The names of Randall Flatlip, Jerry Flatlip, and Larson Rondeau have been in the news enough the last month that even newcomers to the Basin are likely familiar with their upcoming trial on charges of raping a 9-year-old Uintah County girl. The dates for that trial, now to be held in Salt Lake County since the mistrial last month in Summit County, have not yet been announced. The men, however, also face charges unrelated to the rape trial. Randall Flatlip has a hearing scheduled for next week in Vernal’s 8th District Court on a felony charge of assault by a prisoner. Court documents state that Randall Flatlip struck another inmate while in the Uintah County Jail on October 30th resulting in the new charge. Five months after his arrest on the rape charge in 2016, Jerry Flatlip was charged with felony child abuse and the probable cause statement indicated that his 3 year old daughter resided in the same home with him at the time of the alleged rape in 2016. The child was removed from the home and, according to court documents, tested positive to high levels of methamphetamine and marijuana. Charges against Jerry Flatlip for child abuse were eventually filed in September of 2016. The last action on that charge was that the judge granted a continuance in December of 2016. Larson Rondeau also lived in the home with Jerry Flatlip in 2016 and he was also charged with child abuse that was granted a continuance along with Flatlip.
