UBTech’s first ever online graduation ceremony was a great success. In a Monday press release, UBTech shared that the virtual commencement ceremony celebrated 485 students who earned a combined 539 technical certificates. “I had multiple people tell me it was wonderful to view graduation in the comfort of their home,” shares UBTech Student of the Year Laci Day.

Ashley National Forest is reminding the public to be responsible when dealing with campfires. First responders recently had to visit Dowd Mountain to respond to an abandoned campfire. Luckily the fire was contained quickly so it only burned a 10th of an acre.
Man in Naples City Who Fired Shot at Officer Found Deceased
A man who fired a shot at a police officer in Naples City was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

New local cases of COVID-19 have brought the overall total of confirmed cases for the TriCounty Health District to 16 as of the Sunday Situational Update on www.tricountyhealth.com. Uintah County now has 7 overall total confirmed cases with 6 listed as Recovered. Duchesne County now has 9 total cases with 4 Recovered.
Hot Air Balloons Brighten Vernal Sky Over the Weekend
The Dinah Soar Days festival may have been officially moved to August but based on the bright balloons dotting the skies this weekend you wouldn’t have known it. “When we had to move the date from this weekend, some of the pilots still expressed interest in flying,” shares Uintah County Travel and Tourism Director Lesha Coltharp.
Minimal Disruptions Expected With Upcoming Vernal Regional Airport Project
An upcoming project at the Vernal Regional Airport has been several years in the making. Vernal Regional Airport shared on Friday that starting this week the project to move water off the airport will get underway. Planning has been in the works for almost 2 years now. BHI has the contract on the project and will start Wednesday, May 13th, and are anticipated to complete work near the end of June.
Jr. Livestock Show Limited to Exhibitors from Uintah, Duchesne, Daggett Counties
In a recent announcement, the board of directors for the Uintah Basin Junior Livestock Show declared that the livestock show that is scheduled for June 1st through the 4th will be open to exhibitors from the Tri-County area ONLY. The decision is so that the event will “comply with the current and anticipated guidance from the Governor and our local health department.”
Uintah High Represents Well at Sterling Scholar Awards
The 2019-2020 Northeast Region Sterling Scholar Awards took place via an online program on Thursday, May 7th. Everyone was invited to take part of the very first time this event was held as an online event. If you happened to tune in, your Uintah Basin pride would have swelled as Uintah High School had three winners and four runners-up in this year’s competition.
Town of Rangely Boil Order Lifted
The boil order for the Town of Rangely has been lifted as of Thursday. According to a news release from the Rangely Police Department, the Town of Rangely’s water supply has been tested and is determined to be safe to drink. On May 4th, a main water line was breached causing the drinking water system to experience pressure loss with the possibility of contamination entering the water system.
