Caring for Coy an Opportunity to Serve the Basin
Loss of an newborn is such an unimaginable tragedy. At times there seems like there is so little we can do to show our love and support. Uintah Basin Healthcare offers a program called “Caring for Coy” that provides support for any individuals trying to work through such a loss. The cause has Brody’s Fund that helps with financial burdens and has an emotional support through care kits and burial kits.
DWR: Fewer but Bigger Fish to Be Stocked this Year
The Division of Wildlife Resources has announced that this year they will be stocking fewer fish in Utah waters but that the fish will be bigger. Stocking numbers have been consistent since 2014 but new research has convinced the DWR to focus on quality over quantity, producing higher quality fish with better survival rates.
Unemployment Update for Daggett, Duchesne, and Uintah County
The Utah Department of Workforce Services has released the latest unemployment numbers by county for the state of Utah. Daggett County unemployment remained the same from the month before at 4.8 percent, an increase from 4.2 percent one year prior. Duchesne County also remained the same, measuring at 4.1 percent unemployment, a slight decrease from the year before at 4.5 percent.
Drilling Report from the Uintah Basin Small Business Development Center
The March numbers show a mixed bag for drilling in Uintah and Duchesne County.
According to data provided by the State Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, the U.S. Energy Information Administration and compiled by the Uintah Basin Small Business Development Center, drilling continues to trend down.

Specially Trained Dog Visits Chamber of Commerce
In a demonstration by Pickett Pest Control to the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce a special trained dog showed its abilities to sniff out bedbugs. One person in the room was planted with the pests and the dog sniffed that individual out. A fallacy of bedbugs is that they are a city or “dirty” place problem but the truth is that they have become a common occurance wherever there is a food source.
USU Scholarship Endowment Receives $25,000 From Northeastern Counseling
Utah State University Uintah Basin has recently received a scholarship endowment from a local organization. Northeastern Counseling Center donated $25,000 dollars for the USU-Uintah Basin Master of Social Work students.
Munford’s Epic Halloween Costume Collection Donated to Uintah County Library
Among the highlights of the Vernal Comic Con held earlier this month was the display of Ted Munford’s jaw dropping Halloween costume collection. Munford attended the event, staying on hand to answer questions and pose for pictures with the wide-eyed fans of his epic costumes. He had previously donated Ironman and the Incredible Hulk to the library and his Buzz Lightyear costume, which was originally donated to Prime Time For Kids, had made it to the library as its home as well.
