A local business that stands out for its hometown roots is getting attention on a state level. Jim Davis, owner of Davis Food and Drug, is being inducted into the Utah Food Industry Association’s Hall of Fame today during their annual conference.

Students filled the halls of the Uintah Basin Christian Academy on Monday for the first day of their new school year. Along with the old and familiar aspects, the Christian Academy has a few new things for students this year.

The Uintah County Commission opened bids for work on the Ashley Valley Flood Control project during Monday’s Commission meeting.

A Vernal man has pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted child sex abuse. Steven Joseph Lucero had previously pleaded guilty to Attempted Aggravated Assault and Child Abuse related to an incident on December 5th, 2015 as well as to charges related to domestic violence on December 28th, 2015 and February 5th, 2016. 

With the upland game hunts right around the corner, the Division of Wildlife Resources is reporting that the cottontail rabbit population in the Uintah Basin is near a record high.

If you think it’s too early to talk about the Holly Fair in Duchesne County then you don’t know how big of a deal this event is. Considered the longest running craft fair in the state of Utah, vendors are already lining up to get applications in and guarantee a spot in the November event held every year in Roosevelt. 

The launch of the new school year has gone smoothly in the Uintah School District. According to Superintendent Mark Dockins, the district had no hiccups on the first days and while there are no solid numbers yet, enrollment is about where they hoped. 

The D.A.R.E. program is returning to Duchesne County. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office announced last week that Sheriff Dave Boren and Chief Deputy Travis Tucker both completed the 80 hour officer training that will allow the program to return to Duchesne County.
