Cottontail Population in Uintah Basin Near Record High

With the upland game hunts right around the corner, the Division of Wildlife Resources is reporting that the cottontail rabbit population in the Uintah Basin is near a record high. Cottontail rabbit hunting should be “as good as it gets,” shares upland game coordinator Jason Robinson. “We’re still collecting data but it looks like rabbit numbers are as good or better than they were last year. In the case of northeastern Utah, they might be near a record high.” Biologists have 15 different survey routes they check and report that in the right habitat, good rabbit hunting can be found across the state. The hotspots, however, are located in Duchesne and Uintah County where Robinson says “both counties are doing exceptionally well.” The cottontail rabbit hunt will open on
