When Dinah Peltier was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, life changed forever. Dinah experienced an outpouring of support from friends, family and support groups in Provo where she was receiving treatment in early 2015, so much so that she remembers that time as difficult but strengthening. Her radiation treatment a success, Dinah returned home ready for the future and not prepared for a new kind of pain.

The weekends of September 17th and 24th the Uintah High School Mountain Biking Team along with Uintah County will be hosting the Northern and Southern division races. They expect over 2000 people in attendance each weekend. This is a great opportunity to showcase our community and your business!
Uintah Basin Energy Summit 2016 and Little Texas
Two days of energy industry presentations and updates is important to many throughout the region but the experience also offers the opportunity for fun. DWR Recommending Changes to Bait Fishing
The Division of Wildlife Resources is inviting the public to get involved as changes are being considered to fishing rules for 2017 and 2018. Public meetings are scheduled and anglers are urged to attend as officials discuss whether or not to allow anglers to use corn for bait.
Steinaker Piping Project Underway; Meeting Resistance
After years of public process and collaboration, work began this month on a project aimed to pipe the lower 3 and a half miles of the Steinaker Service Canal. The project, consisting of installing 12- to 63-inch high-density polyethylene pipe, will make connections between existing water delivery points and should be complete sometime in December.
Tour of Utah Considering Basin Stop
Utah’s premier racing event may make a stop in the Uintah Basin during the 2017 event. According to Uintah County Commissioner Bill Stringer, Tour of Utah is considering routes that would include eastern Utah roads after organizers were encouraged to check out what the Basin has to offer.
North Sentenced to 50+ Years for Child Sexual Abuse
A Vernal man originally charged with 16 felony counts related to child sexual abuse has been sentenced to prison. 43-year-old Lloyd Vincent North was arrested on March 8th after police were informed of possible abuse of a 5-year-old child. According to court documents, North admitted to abusing his girlfriend’s son on multiple occasions.
Mud Springs Fire
The BIA Forest and Wildland Fire – Uintah & Ouray Agency worked over the weekend on the Mud Springs Fire caused by lightning strike on Saturday. The Uintah and Ouray Agency reported that they experienced no control problems and no structures were threatened.
FBI Offers Reward for Information on Lyle Steed Jeffs
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Lyle Steed Jeffs. Jeffs, the leader in the FLDS church, fled from home confinement in Salt Lake City over the weekend of June 18th and 19th.
