Cancer Support Group Aims at Healing Beyond the Treatment

When Dinah Peltier was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, life changed forever. Dinah experienced an outpouring of support from friends, family and support groups in Provo where she was receiving treatment in early 2015, so much so that she remembers that time as difficult but strengthening. Her radiation treatment a success, Dinah returned home ready for the future and not prepared for a new kind of pain. “Once I was back home twiddling my thumbs, my family and friends back to their lives, I began to feel very alone and depressed,” shares Dinah. “That was the hardest part.” Dinah heard there were some online cancer support groups in the Basin but she knew that wasn’t a good fit for her. Inspired by an article in Coping with Cancer magazine, Dinah got serious about starting a local support group last spring. “Doctors are realizing that you can treat the cancer patient but it isn’t over when treatment is done,” says Dinah. “There is an emotional component and people need somewhere they can turn for emotional support as they move forward.” Sponsored by Uintah Basin Healthcare, the Let’s Talk Uintah Basin Cancer Support Group held their first meeting in August and will continue meeting the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and family are all invited to attend with the next meeting scheduled for
