A day of water fun ended in tragedy
on Saturday afternoon
. According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, a 9-1-1 call came in
at about 3:30pm
from a woman reporting that her 15-year-old nephew had gone under the water at Strawberry Reservoir and did not resurface. “Emergency crews responded and located the body of the young man in about 15-20 feet of water near the day use area of Soldier Creek Campground,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “He had been under water for almost one hour. First responders worked to resuscitate the young man, but unfortunately were unsuccessful…The 15 year old’s family was close-by and worked hard to locate and save him. They did well in swimming together, being aware of each other, and immediately calling for help.” Thanks were offered to all the agencies that helped and condolences were given to the family and friends of the young man. Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office also offered a safety message urging all individuals in or near reservoirs or rivers to wear life jackets: “Sometimes, no matter what you do correctly to safe stay while recreating, there’s no adequate substitute for wearing a life jacket.”
